Hetch Hetchy Valley

Hetch Hetchy Valley is situated on the Tuolumne River downstream from Tuolumne Meadows, 15 miles north of Yosemite Valley. The name "Hetch Hetchy" derives  from tribal Native American language which means a grass with edible seeds that grows in the valley.
After 1906 San Francisco earth quake and as a result of the  controversial congressional  Raker Act passed  in 1913 allowing the construction of  The O’Shaughnessy Dam was build and broke John Muir’s heart who fought till the last day to preserve nature and wild life in Hitch Hetchy Valley. John Muir, the father founder of the Sierra Club that gave birth to  our National Parks System, called Hetch Hetchy valley as the  “ precious mountain temples.” Surrounded by  Tueeulala and Wapama falls and  massive granite sheer cliffs. The Tuolumne River supplies the  reservoir that O’Shaughnessy Dam formed to supply  the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct. The Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct travels then for almost 170 miles long from   Hetch Hetchy reservoir all the way to San Francisco bay area via Sierra Nevada, Central valley and the cost ranges. The pipelines that transport the water are visible in some areas as we noticed along the Priest grade by Moccasin..There are 19 reservoirs in California larger than Hetch Hetchy which marginalize the. Hetch Hetchy’s  1 percent of all stored water in California. In other words, the water can be stored elsewhere to restore the natural & wild life of Hetch Hetchy valley and its ecosystem. Those Who are in favor of the removal of the Dam believe that  the water from Hetch Hetchy could be stored in Don Pedro Reservoir, located on the Tuolumne River as well as saw it from highway 120. Golden Horizon Travel supports all effort to preserve our nature and ecology. We hope that the Dam which broke John Nuir’s heart will be broken and the four seasons & will be restored and wild life will invite the ecosystem back to Hetch Hetchy Valley , the Twin of the Yosemite valley.
