You will travel on the famed and iconic Golden Gate Bridge on California State Highway 101. Sit back and relax as you drive by picturesque views of the quaint coastal town of Sausalito, home to cozy houseboats. You will also be driven past Tiburon and Mill Valley, and Mount Tamalpais will dominate the skyline along the way. As you drive north on Highway 101, you will also see the Richmond-San Rafael double decker bridge, which was built in 1956, from a distance.
Thereafter you will transfer from Highway 101 to Highway 37 East towards Napa Valley. As we cross the bridge that separates Marin from Sonoma County, you will see the Stone Tree Golf Club and the hanging houses overlooking San Pablo Bay and its picturesque lagoons. You are now coming into the southern part of Sonoma Valley as we pass Sonoma's famous raceway on Highway 12, located in the wonderful Los Carneros Grape Growing Region.
Los Carneros is a scenic grape growing region located in south of Napa and Sonoma Valleys. Because of Los Carneros’ cooler climate (because of its close proximity to San Pablo Bay), Los Carneros wine region produces some of the best pinot noir and chardonnays in the country. Though many cultivars are grown in Los Carneros, this region is celebrated for its sparkling wines as well. You will be taken to the first winery selected on your route, within the Los Carneros wine region, where you will enjoy great wine tasting. Because access to all wineries for wine tasting are subject to availability, it is recommended that you let your tour guide know in advance what wineries you want to go to, so that the reservation can be made in advance. Our private and small group tours allow you to interact with the wine experts and/or wine makers in certain wine regions, ask questions and enjoy your narrated and guided wine-tasting tour. In addition, our drivers will offer you a comprehensive guided tour of Napa Valley’s famous wine region and trails. You will leave the first winery around 11:00 for the second winery within Napa Valley or Calistoga. You will now go to your second winery on Highway 29 or on the Silverado Wine Trail. You may also set up a guided tour of a wine cave to see where and how wine is aged. Optional guided tours, to visit a sparkling (champagne) winery in Napa to enjoy cave and barrel tasting, are available; or you may simply choose to relax and enjoy a glass of champagne or wine at a winery overlooking Napa Valley. The wine tour will continue after lunch and your tour guide will escort you to additional wine tasting and sightseeing opportunities at the best grape growing regions within Napa Valley. You can choose to add an optional side trip to a private cave and wine barrel tour, which is available for our private tours. Reservations are required several days prior to the wine cave or barrel tasting tour. You can also choose to add an optional side trip to a biodynamic and organic winery in Sonoma or Napa Valley. Please note that all optional tours are subject to additional fees required by these wineries. Napa Valley wineries are considered to be some of the top wineries in the world because the grapes grow in rich volcanic soil. Napa Valley is home to climate conditions that are perfect for growing grapes. In addition to, or instead of, going to a fourth winery, you may also decide to do a cave wine tasting on the beautiful Silverado Trail or go on a wine tour within a vineyard. Our tour guide will take care of booking and organizing your schedule, unless you prefer to handle your own itinerary.
If time permits, you can visit more wineries in Napa Valley Wine Country. You can also add overtime to your tour, which we highly recommend. During the harvest season, our tour guides drive our 4x4 SUVs through Napa Valley vineyards and back roads. Along the way they can show you how grapes are manually picked and you can get a taste of the grapes direct from the vines.

After a rewarding and jam-packed day, learning about Napa Valley Wine Country, your tour guide will drive you back to San Francisco. On the way back to the city you can ask your tour guide to make a pit stop in Sausalito where you can, by adding overtime, visit this coastal and quaint town before your tour guide drives you back to your hotel in San Francisco. Or you can choose to end the tour here and take the ferry back to San Francisco (ferry tickets are not included in the tour price). Whether you decide to go to Sausalito or not, your tour guide will still stop at the Marin Headlands for a photo opportunity – weather and time permitting. The Marin Headlands is a hilly peninsula at the edge of Marin County, located just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The Marin Headlands are famous for their views of the Bay Area, especially the Golden Gate Bridge. Depending on where your hotel is located, you have the option to make one last stop before returning to your hotel in San Francisco. This will be to the famous Pacific Heights neighborhood in San Francisco, which is the most expensive district in San Francisco.
