Morning tour itinerary. Your personal tour guide will meet you at your hotel at 8 or 9 am depending on the season. After a complimentary pick-up at your hotel anywhere in San Francisco downtown or Fisherman’s Wharf Area or in Sausalito, you’ll head north driving across the famous Golden Gate Bridge on the way to Muir Woods National Monument. You will enjoy breathtaking and scenic views from various vista points as you drive on the panoramic highway and California State Route 1.
In Muir Woods National Park, your personal tour guide will provide you with the entrance tickets (included in this tour price), and a complete and compressive introduction about the world famous giant coastal redwoods , Muir Woods forest guidelines and hiking trails.
Muir Woods is a very small national park with extremely limited parking space, those who drive to Muir Wood end up wasting their time and money. We highly recommend avoiding driving to Muir Woods and leave the driving to us. This is the world’s most-visited redwood park due to its proximity to San Francisco, the forest features an easy flat, one-mile-long trail that runs among redwoods trees alongside a small creek. Your tour guide will recommend two groves where you can marvel at the tallest and oldest redwoods in Muir Woods forest.
To preserve peace and serenity in this small and ancient forest of redwoods, park rangers prohibit drivers and tour leaders from carrying out guided tours inside the forest. Since your tour guide will brief you on how and where to go inside this small forest, you will not need a tour guide inside the forest as the trail is easy and accessible to everyone.
Muir Woods Trading Company at Muir Woods National Monument offers specialty wood gifts, jewelry, and books available as well at the Visitor Center. There is also a café where you can enjoy hot or cold drinks, daily hot food menus, sandwiches, fresh fruits, salads, soups, organic pastries and muffins all make for a snack or meal from local ingredients from neighboring organic farms.
After Muir Woods, you will travel on scenic highway 1 to visit Sausalito with an optional stop at Muir Beach overlook. Sausalito was ranked as one of the top 20 destinations in the country, travelers and residents alike agree that the coastal town of Sausalito's scenic waterfront and panoramic views of San Francisco bay and Alcatraz Island worth the stop to enjoy the ambiance, wine tasting, lunch break, or simply have an ice-cream or a drink outside while admiring the picturesque views of San Francisco Bay.
After your guided tour of Muir Woods National Monument and Sausalito, your personal tour guide will accompany you to Alcatraz ferry terminal located immediately adjacent to the Pier 33 where will embark on the next ferry to Alcatraz Island.
Afternoon schedule: from 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m.(approximately), you will be enjoying a self-guided tour of Alcatraz Island. The ferry tickets and Alcatraz famous audio-guided tour are all included in the tour price.
Notes and recommendations Regarding your Alcatraz tour:
-Alcatraz was once one of the world's most feared prisons, grimly isolated on a massive rock sitting in the middle of San Francisco Bay, is now a very popular tourist attraction. Alcatraz Island and Muir Woods National Monument are both federally managed by the National Park Service as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, both parks prohibit tour guides from carrying out guided tours inside these monuments. Your tour guide will not be able to accompany you to Alcatraz and you will have to return to your hotel on your own, unless you wish to pay for overtime to the driver to wait for you.
Once at Alcatraz Island, you can enjoy your free afternoon and a self-guided tour at your pace, take as much or as little time as you want. The trip to Alcatraz takes about 2 to 3 hours which requires walking up and downhill, upstairs, and downstairs. Visitors unable to make the climb up Alcatraz's steep hill can take advantage of an electric shuttle that runs twice an hour from the dock to the prison building, and twice an hour from the front of the prison back to the dock. Boarding is available on a first come, first served basis .
-Alcatraz tickets are extremely hard to get because they are often sold out weeks and months in advance, the sooner you book the better. During holidays, week-ends and summer’s vacation, up to eight weeks’ reservation in advance is required to secure Alcatraz tickets as thousands of visitors try to book these tickets at the same time.
-Included in your entrance fee is an award-winning self-guided audio tour available in English, German, Japanese, Dutch, Spanish, French, Italian, and Chinese Mandarin.
-There is no food service on the island, so it is advisable to bring a snack or have lunch before your visit or take advantage and have a quick lunch break in Sausalito or in Muir Woods . The temperature drops on the island, so please dress in layers for multiple weather conditions(wind and fog mostly in summer and rain in winter). With many stairs and hills on the island and prison property, it is best to wear comfortable walking shoes as well.
-Alcatraz Island tickets are non-refundable, and may only be used by the named ticket-holder(s). Please refer to our full terms and conditions online, or let us know if you have any questions.

This calendar governs all our tours and available in over 10 different languages which multiplies the number of tour options by 10! When Alcatraz tickets are sold out, we cannot simply block the calendar for these particular date(s) because this will prevent all other clients from booking any of our tours in 10 different languages, this would put us all out of business! Alcatraz represents only 1% of our tours and it’s extremely impossible to block the calendar each time Alcatraz is sold out. For that reason, we have amended these terms and conditions on our website stating clearly unequivocally the following terms regarding Alcatraz tour and tickets:
-All our tours including Alcatraz are subject to availability even if the transaction is approved. We do reserve the right to void or refund your transaction when Alcatraz tickets are sold out, this is totally out of our hands as the only provider of Alcatraz tickets and tours are governed by the U.S. National Park Service.
-We do require 8 business weeks in advance when booking our Alcatraz tour during the peaks season, holidays and week-ends. The peak season refers to the period of April to the end of October.
-We reserve the right to offer you alternative tours when Alcatraz is sold out, if you decline our offer, we simply and fully refund your transaction which takes about 10 business days before your funds are available to you as stated on our terms and conditions page available in all languages.
Common mistake some customers do: When Alcatraz tickets are sold out, customers rush desperately to book directly Alcatraz tour on our website without taking the time to review our terms and conditions in this regard, we are not to blame in this case as we made it extremely clear that we have no control over Alcatraz tickets when they are sold out, for that reason we do require at least 8 business weeks booking in advance!
